There are 995 Fair Price shops in Tiruvallur District, out of which 965 shops are run by co-Operative Department, 7 shops by TNCSC and 9 shops Fisherman Society respectively, besides 1 shop by Ashok Leyland, 13 shops run by women self helping Group. There are 4,97,188 Family cards in Tiruvallur District and the requirements for the supply of Rice is 8302 tonnes, Sugar 916 tonnes, Kerosene 1224 litres, OAP Rice 143 tonnes, AAy 1932 tonnes, and Annapoorna Rice 18 tonnes.

Distribution of essential commodities through fair price shops and Inspection of fair price shops.
This scheme aims at providing Food Security to meet the requirement of Senior citizens, who are eligible for the National Old Age Pension scheme. They are entitled for 10 Kg of Food grains per month at free of cost. The government have sanctioned a sum of Rs.20,57,508/- towards this scheme.
The Government of India launched a scheme called "Anthyodhaya Anna Yojana". The object of the scheme is to ensure Food Security to the poorest of the poor among below poverty Line in rural and Urban Areas. The beneficiaries are selected through Village Panchayat.
As per the instructions of the Special Commissioner and Civil supplies weekly review is conducted by the Collector every Monday to monitor the public Distribution system along with the officials to the outlets and liftment are monitored. To review the performance of the Taluk Level Officers under PDS, monthly Co-ordination meeting is conducted during the last week of every month by the Collector.
