The Tamil Nadu khadi and village Industries Board was formed in April 1960 (under Tamil Nadu khadi and village Industries Board Act 18 of 1956) The object of forming the Board is to promote organize and to improve the khadi and village industries in the rural areas in co-ordination with the other Agencies engaged in rural development work.

Public Services provided by the Office/Department

• To provide employment to the downtrodden and increase employment opportunities.
• To produce marketable articles by using local resources .
• To improve the economic conditions of the rural poor by creating self-reliance amongst the people.

Schemes are implemented through Department units, Industrial Co-operative Societies individuals Funds are received from the Khadi and village Industries commission, and the State Government through plan and Non plan schemes
