In Tamil Nadu, under Article 39(a) of the Indian Constitution, Tamil Nadu state Legal Aid and Advisory Board was started in the Year 1976 in order to help the poor litigants with an aim that no citizen should be deprived of justice due to poverty. To have uniformity in the whole country the legal services authorities Act 1987 was passed and as far as Tamil Nadu State is concerned, the necessary notification by the Central Government and Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authorities Rules, 1997 were notified. Honourable Justice Thiru. M.S.Jaganathan, was the chairman of the State Legal Services Authority, each and every judicial Court in Tamil Nadu is having the Legal Service Office. The very motto of the committee is to give assistance to the poor litigants by way of settling their problems at the first step itself.
