TANSACS - HIV/AIDS


Started by the State Government in 1992 under the Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai, the State Project Cell for HIV/AIDS has evolved to become TAMIL NADU STATE AIDS CONTROL SOCIETY (TANSACS) registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, with effect from 11.5.1994.  TANSACS has the governing body comprising the Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, as the President and a senior I.A.S. Officer as the Member Secretary cum Project Director

TANSACS is implementing various activities vigorously throughout the state of Tamil Nadu with the guidance and support of its Executive Committee, Technical Advisory Committee and Ethical Scientific Committee constituted by the Government.
 


TANSACS has made a mark in the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the state, with the financial assistance from the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO). The results are reflected in the form of highest level of awareness due to constant efforts, mainly by evolving IEC strategies or awareness programmes. The Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society is the role model in the entire country in creating awareness and behavioural changes by using all the available media.

Integrated Counseling & Testing Centers - ICTC

The concept of ICTC is owned by all the Health Care Providers and it is aimed at the following activities:

To integrate all the counseling & testing services of Voluntary Confidential Counseling Centre (VCCTC),  Blood Safety (BS), Ante-Natal Care (ANC), Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS  (PPTCT),  Anti - Retroviral Therapy (ART), Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) and HIV – TB,  under one roof
 
bullet To link ICTC with field level activities of NGOs, PLHAs networks, Care centers, Private Hospitals, etc.,
 
bullet To establish guidance and information center to involve community in the Health care services.
 
bullet To integrate and to mainstream services of ICTC with hospital services, changing from project mode to system mode.
